mend的基本意思是“修理〔補〕”,常指使由于穿用而破碎的、撕裂的、破損的衣服、鞋、帽等具體物品重新完整或堅固起來,含有不需要高超的技藝或特殊的設(shè)備的意味。用于抽象事物可表示“恢復(fù)”“康復(fù)”“改〔糾〕正”“改善〔進〕”等,這時不強調(diào)手段,而強調(diào)結(jié)果。
