大家都知道這個(gè)詞是“烤”的意思,其實(shí)它還有另一個(gè)用法:
To roast someone: 批評(píng)某人
把某人放在輿論的烤架上,用語(yǔ)言猛烈地炙烤,引申為嚴(yán)厲批評(píng)的意思:
Putting them on the spot, putting all the heat on them, to criticize them
另外也可以表達(dá)帶有挖苦、調(diào)侃的批評(píng),這就和中文里的“吐槽”非常類似了,近幾年中國(guó)大火的綜藝節(jié)目《吐槽大會(huì)》的英文名就叫做《Roast》,它的原版是美國(guó)知名脫口秀《Comedy Central Roast》(喜劇中心吐槽大會(huì)),專門請(qǐng)明星來節(jié)目上吐槽:

吐槽者是 Roaster,如果是“被吐槽”用動(dòng)詞 get:

Complain 這個(gè)詞你一定學(xué)過,它和吐槽類似,用來表示內(nèi)心的不滿:
To complain about something to someone: 和某人抱怨某事
比如你去了一家很糟糕的餐廳:
Complaining about the bad service… 抱怨服務(wù)差…
Complaining about the food… 抱怨食物不好…
也有人不管遇到什么事都要吐槽:

Fuss
愛吐槽的人通常比較挑剔,對(duì)什么都有要求,形容這種“事兒多”的人:

還可以加上表示程度的短語(yǔ):
