GRE寫作的4個誤區(qū)
誤區(qū)一:
myth:文章寫的越長越好,寫的越長,分數(shù)就越高。
truth:這種錯誤的想法是中國學(xué)生普遍存在的。我們要意識到:首先,文章寫的長,是有可能得高分的;其次,文章寫的長,是有可能得低分的;再次,文章寫的短,是有可能得高分的;最后,文章寫的長,是有可能得低分的。因此,考生字數(shù)的多少以及文章的長短,與最后得到的分數(shù)是沒有任何關(guān)系的。所以,考生為了想要得到高分,而故意去寫一些廢話來湊字數(shù)的行為,是完全沒有必要的。況且,如今issue的時間已經(jīng)縮短為30分鐘,考生要在這僅有的30分鐘時間內(nèi)必須要完成審題,寫作和最后的校正,這還是建立在打字速度比較快的前提下,有些考生在30分鐘內(nèi)連文章都寫不完,哪有時間浪費在去寫一些湊字數(shù)的廢話。一般情況下,我們會要求學(xué)生issue的字數(shù)大約在400字左右,不需要你有過多的廢話,寫多長的文章,只要能夠把一個問題分析清楚,就是考生得高分的保障。
誤區(qū)二:
myth:句子越長越好,越復(fù)雜越好。
truth:其實,一個句子的長短,和考生得到的分數(shù)之間,也是沒有任何關(guān)系的。但是中國同學(xué)普遍非常熱衷于把一個能夠用一句話說清楚的句子,在他的前面,后面和中間,加無數(shù)的廢話,來把這句句子湊的很長。例如Recent years, this problem has appeared in the cities of China, the tendency of which is more and more serious.這句話在中國同學(xué)的眼里看來,是多么的親切而又熟悉啊。其實這樣的啰嗦地使用從句是完全沒有必要的,我們完全就可以用一句句子說清楚:This is a recent and growing problem in cities in China.我們要記住,GRE考試,考察的是考生是否具有能與別人進行學(xué)術(shù)交流的能力。如果你沒有這樣一種有效地和別人交流溝通的能力,你的句子寫的再長,也一樣會得低分。那么如何做到convey meaning effectively呢?其實非常簡單,就是把一句話用最簡潔的語言說清楚,就行了。但是難道就一直用短句,不用長句了嗎?究竟什么時候該使用長句呢?當我們用一句話不能把一個意思表達清楚,一味地使用一系列的短句反而是啰嗦的,不以利于有效交流的。這個時候,我們就需要使用從句,來把分成幾個句子表達的意思用一個句子說清楚,從而達到句子簡潔及有效溝通的要求。
誤區(qū)三:
myth:使用模板。
truth:首先,我們可以問自己一個問題,那就是為什么要使用模板?答案非常清楚,為了湊字數(shù)。有些模板甚至在不需要考生填寫的情況下,已經(jīng)高達一百多字。那么,我們再問自己另外一個問題,為什么模板可以使用?因為模板全都是廢話,任何一篇文章都可以套用。既然是為了湊字數(shù),寫的都是廢話,其實又回到了我們討論的誤區(qū)一,因此,考生是沒有必要使用模板的。而且,有些模板的語言是十分漂亮的,但是,考生的語言往往是慘白而驚悚的。因此,在使用了這樣與自己的語言形成鮮明對照的模板之后,反而會讓閱卷人對你的文章大打折扣,不利于考生獲得高分。因此,筆者建議考生不要浪費時間去背模板,把背模板的時間花在分析issue上,反而更利于考生突破高分。
誤區(qū)四:
myth:考GRE英語好是關(guān)鍵。
truth:不可否認,英語好是考好GRE的前提之一。但是,光英語好,是沒有用的。因為我們的GRE寫作,根本就不叫寫作,根本就不叫writing,他叫做分析性寫作,叫做analytical writing section,他考察的題目也不叫做issue,叫做"Analyze an Issue" task,因此,在英語好的基礎(chǔ)上,更重要的,是你的分析能力,對于一個問題,有沒有做到insightful和in-depth的分析,要有critical thinking,你的語言再好,如果只是翻來覆去地說一些非實質(zhì)性的內(nèi)容,依然是無法獲得高分的。這也就是為什么之前,筆者一再地強調(diào),寫廢話,湊字數(shù),背模板。是沒有意義的,也是沒有辦法獲得高分的。獲得高分的關(guān)鍵,是在于考生對于一個復(fù)雜的問題,是否進行了深入的思考,以及如何去分析,這才是最重要的。
