中華人民共和國的成立，使勞動人民登上了歷史舞臺，勞動者成為了國家的主人。中國工人第一次走上街頭，大規(guī)模紀念“五一 ”國際勞動節(jié)是在1920年。新中國成立后，中央人民政府政務(wù)院于1949年12月將5月1日定為法定的勞動節(jié)。

　　新中國成立50多年來，在不同時期涌現(xiàn)出千千萬萬勞動模范，他們是廣大勞動者的杰出代表。1989年后，國務(wù)院基本上每5年表彰一次全國勞動模范和先進工作者，每次表彰3000人左右。無論是時傳祥、王進喜、張秉貴等老一代勞動模范，還是蔣筑英、包起帆、李素麗、徐虎、王啟民、許振超 、李斌等新一代勞動模范，他們以自己的實際行動，鑄就了愛崗敬業(yè)、爭創(chuàng)一流、艱苦奮斗、勇于創(chuàng)新、淡泊名利、甘于奉獻的偉大勞模精神，成為我們民族寶貴的精神財富，成為偉大民族精神的重要組成部分。
