The intelligent Zhang Zi and the clever Hui Zi were strolling on the bridge over the Haoshui River.

　　Zhuang Zi said, "The fish is swimming freely and unhurriedly in the water. What a pleasure!"

　　Hui Zi said, "You are not the fish. How could you know that the fish is joyous1?"

　　Zhuang zi said, "You are not me, and how could you know that I can't tell whether the fish is joyous or not?"

　　Hui Zi said, "No, I am not you and do not know what you are thinking about . But you are not fish. So you cannot know whether the fish is joyous or not. This is for sure."

　　Zhuang Zi said, "When you said 'How could you know that the fish was joyous.' So I know the fish is joyous, and I know this on the Haoshui River."

　　智慧的莊子和聰明的惠子在濠水的橋上游玩。

　　莊子說：“鯈魚從容自在地在水中游玩，這真是魚的快樂呀！”

　　惠子說：“你又不是魚，你怎么會知道它是否快樂呢？”

　　莊子說：“你又不是魚，你怎么會知道我不懂得魚的快樂呢？”

　　惠子說：“我的確不是你，卻是不知道你在想什么，你并不是魚，因此，你不知道魚是否快樂，這是完全可以肯定的了。”

　　莊子說：“你說‘你怎么會知道魚的快樂呢’的時候，表面你已經(jīng)肯定了我知道魚的快樂。所以我是知道魚快樂的，我是在濠水之上知道魚快樂的呀！”
