A farmer was snowed up in his farmstead by a severe storm, and was unable to go out and procure1 provisions2 for himself and his family. So he first killed his sheep and used them for food; then, as the storm still continued, he killed his goats. And, last of all, as the weather showed no signs of improving, he was compelled to kill his oxen and eat them. When his dogs saw the various animals being killed and eaten in turn, they said to one another, "We had better get out of this or we shall be the next to go!"

　　一個(gè)農(nóng)夫因持續(xù)而來的風(fēng)暴被困在自己的農(nóng)場里，無法外出為自己和家人尋獲食物。迫于無奈，他殺死了自己的綿羊來充饑。可是，風(fēng)暴依然持續(xù)不停，繼而又殺死山羊。最后，因?yàn)轱L(fēng)暴絲毫沒有減弱的意思，他又被迫殺死了自己的牛來填飽肚子。那些狗看到不同的動物依次被殺、被吃掉后，便相互訴說：“我們最好快點(diǎn)離開這里，不然就會成為下一個(gè)被殺的對象。”
