The gardner's dog fell into a deep well, from which his master used to draw water for the plants in his garden with a rope and a bucket. Failing to get the dog out by means of these, the gardener went down into the well himself in order to fetch him up. But he dog thought he had come to make sure of drowning him; so he bit his master as soon as be came within reach, and hurt him a good deal, with the result that he left the dog to his fate1 and climbed out of the well, remarking, "It serves me quite right for trying to save so determined2 a suicide3."
花匠的狗掉進(jìn)了一口深井里,井旁邊有繩子和桶,是花匠經(jīng)常用來(lái)打水去澆花的工具,可無(wú)論用什么辦法,他也沒(méi)能把狗撈上來(lái)。于是,為了救小狗,花匠自己跳進(jìn)了井中??墒?,狗卻以為主人下來(lái)是要淹死它,所以,當(dāng)花匠靠近狗時(shí),狗立刻狠狠地咬了他一口?;ń持鴮?shí)受了重傷,決定讓狗自生自滅,不再管它了?;ń骋贿呁吓?,一邊說(shuō):“我真是活該!為什么要去救一個(gè)想要尋死的畜生呢?”
