　　“七一”作為黨的生日，最早見于中央文件是在1941年6月。當(dāng)時(shí)，中共中央發(fā)出了《關(guān)于中國共產(chǎn)黨誕生二十周年抗戰(zhàn)四周年紀(jì)念指示》。指示說：“今年七一是中共產(chǎn)生的二十周年，七七是中國抗日戰(zhàn)爭的四周年，各抗日根據(jù)地應(yīng)分別召集會(huì)議，采取各種辦法，舉行紀(jì)念，并在各種刊物出特刊或特輯”。這是以中共中央名義作出的把“七一”作為黨的生日進(jìn)行紀(jì)念的第一個(gè)文件。

　　此后，全黨開始大規(guī)模地舉行紀(jì)念黨的生日的活動(dòng)。當(dāng)年7月1日，中共中央機(jī)關(guān)報(bào)《解放日報(bào)》(1941年5月16日創(chuàng)刊)出版了《中國共產(chǎn)黨二十周年特輯》，發(fā)表了題為《紀(jì)念中國共產(chǎn)黨二十周年》的社論，還發(fā)表了朱德寫的《中國共產(chǎn)黨與革命戰(zhàn)爭》、林伯渠寫的《中國共產(chǎn)黨與政權(quán)》、吳玉章寫的《我和共產(chǎn)黨》等紀(jì)念文章。在此前后，該報(bào)還大量報(bào)道了延安黨政機(jī)關(guān)和人民團(tuán)體舉行紀(jì)念黨誕生20周年活動(dòng)的情況。同年7月1日，重慶《新華日報(bào)》也發(fā)表紀(jì)念黨的誕生的社論。

　　從此，“七一”就作為黨的生日固定下來。每年的7月1日，全黨都要熱烈慶祝黨的誕生紀(jì)念日。正如劉少奇同志所說：“這是我們黨最重要的紀(jì)念日，也是中國人民、中國民族最重要的紀(jì)念日。”
