在外事接待活動(dòng)中，譯員首先面臨的一道難題是稱謂的口譯。稱謂代表了一個(gè)人的職位、職銜或?qū)W銜，體現(xiàn)了一個(gè)人的資歷和地位。稱謂的誤譯不僅是對(duì)有關(guān)人員的不尊重，而且也會(huì)產(chǎn)生種.種不良的后果。稱謂的準(zhǔn)確翻譯其關(guān)鍵在于譯員對(duì)有關(guān)人員的身份及其稱謂的表達(dá)是否有一個(gè)正確的理解，尤其是對(duì)稱謂語(yǔ)的認(rèn)識(shí)。一種稱謂語(yǔ)很可能表示多種身份，例如，英語(yǔ)的頭銜語(yǔ) president，譯成漢語(yǔ)時(shí)可視具體情況分別譯作共和國(guó)的總統(tǒng)、國(guó)家主席、大學(xué)的校長(zhǎng)、學(xué)院的院長(zhǎng)、學(xué)會(huì)或協(xié)會(huì)的會(huì)長(zhǎng)或主席、公司的總裁或董事長(zhǎng)等等。
