John: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m John.
Jean: And I’m Jean.
John: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language.
John: It’s very important to stay up-to-date with English as new words and expressions enter the language all the time.
John: Today’s new word is pashmina. P.A.S.H.M.I.N.A. Pashmina.
Jean: Pashmina.
John: Well, a pashmina is a scarf made from cashmere and silk.
John: Well, pashminas are very expensive, so they are worn by rich, upper class women as a status symbol.

A: Why don’t we eat in this restaurant here?
B: Are you joking? It must be very expensive – every woman in there is wearing a pashmina! Let’s find somewhere cheaper.
John: Have you got a pashmina?
Jean: No! Pashminas cost far too much money!
John: Really? But are they better than ordinary scarfs?
Jean: Well, I don’t know about better, but pashminas are certainly much more expensive.
John: I see.
Jean: Anyway, pashminas are out of fashion now!
John: So you don’t want me to buy you one?
Jean: Well, only if you really want to!
